7 Most Expensive Towns in Cornwall

Cornwall has always been attractive to holidaymakers and second home owners alike. Sometimes it feels like you are in a place somewhat different to rest of the UK. It’s spectacular coastline, hidden coves and historic towns and villages have made it a place people want to visit or live. Also many dream of retiring to a place completely different to their own and if the desired location is not abroad, it can often be Cornwall.

Like any location, Cornwall has its affordable and its expensive areas and this article will look at the most pricey towns to buy a 3 bedroom house.

  1. Perranporth

Prices for a three bedroom house start around £320,000 in Perranporth. It is a popular holiday destination because of its 2 mile beach and is also frequented by surfers because of its Atlantic waves. The town also has its own airfield dating back to World War II.

  1. Marrazion

A similar house in Marrazion will cost upwards of £290,000. The issue here is with supply of properties as not many larger homes actually come up for sale. This ancient town is frequented by many artists who sell their paintings and potteries in the galleries in the old streets.

  1. Padstow

You may be able to get an equivalent house in Padstow for £250,000 but more likely it will be north of £290,000 so this town has come in as the third most expensive town. This was traditionally just a fishing village but its fame (and its property prices ) have increased because of the restauranteur Rick Stein who has promoted the town in his cooking series.

  1. Fowey

A standard 3 bedroom house in Fowey will cost around £275,000. There is not a ready supply to the market, so prices remain high. Steep roads wind down to the harbour in this town giving it a real old sea town feel. Indeed Daphne Du Maurer was based here and wrote many of her novels about smugglers, pirates and privateers of the olden days.

  1. Bocastle

In Bocastle, a similar house would cost you north of £260,000. A television series has been filmed here and it also had a massive flood in 2004, so the town hit our screens for both positive and negative reasons. But in either case, more people became aware of this town.

  1. Looe

This is again a popular holiday destination because of its sandy beach. Family homes which are a little further out may set you back around £210,000

  1. Falmouth

Falmouth has its own harbour which can cater for larger vessels and even cruise ships, so it popular with fishermen and yachtsmen. It has a historic town, which contains Pendennis Castle built by Henry VIII. It also has good transport links making it popular with second home owners and day visitors.  A three bedroom house here would cost above £175,000.
